Helix Energy Solutions Group’s Canyon Offshore subsea contracting business unit signed contracts for a new Perry XT 1500 Seabed Trenching System and two 200 horsepower Perry XLX work class ROVs, to be built by Forum Energy Technologies, Inc.

The XT 1500 trencher will support Canyon Offshore’s Oil & Gas and Renewable Energy contracting operations, trenching and burying rigid and flexible products and power cables in a single pass up to 3m below mean seabed. Helix Energy Solutions Group awarded the Group Safety Champion to Canyon Offshore ROV Superintendent Ian Mason for his performance during the second quarter of 2012. During preparations for a project, Mr. Mason noticed an operation which had the potential for a subsea release of hydraulic fluid. A potential release would have been a product of the method of operation and was not deemed acceptable by Mr. Mason as it violated Canyon Offshore’s Environmental Policy. ROV vessel Grand Canyon in drydock at the Bergen Group Fosen shipyard in Rissa, Norway where she is undergoing the final phases of construction before entering service.

Helix ESG’s new ROV Support Vessel charter, Grand Canyon, is in the final phases of construction in Rissa, Norway, where the vessel’s exterior is being painted and onboard equipment installed, including her 250-ton main deck crane.The 125 meter long Grand Canyon includes a DP3 dynamic-positioning system optimized for station-keeping in shallow waters common to offshore power cable installation projects.
