The new XT1500 trencher is based upon the proven design of the XT1200 vehicle currently in operation in the North Sea.
Helix Energy Solutions Group’s Canyon Offshore subsea contracting business unit signed contracts for a new Perry XT 1500 Seabed Trenching System and two 200 horsepower Perry XLX work class ROVs, to be built by Forum Energy Technologies, Inc.
The XT 1500 trencher will support Canyon Offshore’s Oil & Gas and Renewable Energy contracting operations, trenching and burying rigid and flexible products and power cables in a single pass up to 3m below mean seabed. In August 2012, Helix Energy Solutions Group Inc.’s robotics subsidiary, Canyon Offshore Limited (U.K.), was contracted to conduct trenching operations with the T1200 water-jet trenching system in the Sheringham Shoal offshore wind farm off the coast of the United Kingdom. Helix Energy Solutions Group awarded the Group Safety Champion to Canyon Offshore ROV Superintendent Ian Mason for his performance during the second quarter of 2012. During preparations for a project, Mr. Mason noticed an operation which had the potential for a subsea release of hydraulic fluid. A potential release would have been a product of the method of operation and was not deemed acceptable by Mr. Mason as it violated Canyon Offshore’s Environmental Policy.
