Helix Energy Solutions Group’s Canyon Offshore subsea contracting business unit signed contracts for a new Perry XT 1500 Seabed Trenching System and two 200 horsepower Perry XLX work class ROVs, to be built by Forum Energy Technologies, Inc.

The XT 1500 trencher will support Canyon Offshore’s Oil & Gas and Renewable Energy contracting operations, trenching and burying rigid and flexible products and power cables in a single pass up to 3m below mean seabed. Helix Energy Solutions Group awarded the Group Safety Champion to Canyon Offshore ROV Superintendent Ian Mason for his performance during the second quarter of 2012. During preparations for a project, Mr. Mason noticed an operation which had the potential for a subsea release of hydraulic fluid. A potential release would have been a product of the method of operation and was not deemed acceptable by Mr. Mason as it violated Canyon Offshore’s Environmental Policy. Helix Energy To Sell Oil And Gas Unit To Talos Energy

HOUSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Dec. 13, 2012– Helix Energy Solutions Group, Inc. (NYSE: HLX) has entered into a definitive agreement to sell Energy Resource Technology GOM, Inc. (ERT), the Company’s oil and gas subsidiary, to Talos Production LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Talos Energy LLC, a privately held Houston-based oil and gas company. The selling price involves a base purchase price of $610 million plus contingent consideration in the form of overriding royalty interests on ERT’s Wang exploration prospect as well as certain other exploration prospects. The Man Behind the Conversion: VP for Commercial Engineering at Helix Well Ops

Earlier this year Helix Energy Solutions Group announced it was acquiring a drillship to be converted into a well intervention vessel and re-named her the Helix 534, referencing the vessel’s length of 534 feet. The Helix 534 is expected to enter service mid-2013 and will be operated by our well intervention business unit, Helix Well Ops. Overseeing the conversion process is Helix ESG’s Vice President for Commercial Engineering, Colin Johnston. Helix Updates Well Intervention Fleet Backlog

Helix Energy Solutions Group announced today that it has been awarded its initial customer contractual commitments for the Helix 534. The Helix 534was acquired in August from Transocean and is undergoing modifications and upgrades necessary for conversion into a well intervention vessel at the Jurong Shipyard in Singapore. The Helix 534 is scheduled to sail from Singapore during the first quarter of 2013 and after transit to the Gulf of Mexico, is expected to be placed into service in late second quarter 2013.
